NAACP backs cannabis worker protections (Newsletter: August 14, 2023)

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) has come out in support of cannabis industry workers’ rights, in a marked shift away from the illegal drug’s longtime negative connotations. In a news release dated August 14, 2023, the civil rights organization announced their endorsement of the Cannabis Worker Protection Act, calling for measures to guarantee fair wages and safe working conditions for those employed in the marijuana industry. This move is being seen as a landmark decision in ensuring equity and opportunity in the space.

The NAACP, the largest civil rights organization in the United States, has united around the issue of cannabis reform.
